Many of us ride for spouses and other close relatives or friends. Team captain, Ken Minor, started riding for his wife Karen shortly after she was diagnosed with MS in 1998. The drugs that help patients with MS are developed by researchers using funds raised by the National MS Society through events like this bike ride.
Some of our veteran riders ride for themselves. Christin Harding had trouble with hills since balance issues (common w/ MS) made it impossible to stand up in the seat and difficulty walking made it even more of a challenge to get off and walk up the hill. When asked why she does it she says simply “Because I still can. The possibility of a future in which I’m unable to walk OR bike is a very realistic fear.”
